India's Net Connection among the Worst in the World

Posted by with No comments

Facing Internet problems, slow connectivity, getting harrowed with your Internet service provider? Well, the problem is that India's Internet connection is slower and among the worst in the world even when compared to developing countries in South America, according to Internet Traffic Report, which monitors the flow of data around the world.

The data below gives an idea of where Asia ranks. Higher index means faster and more reliable connection. North America and Australia have higher index meaning faster Internet connection, while Asia is lacking behind. On the other hand, response time is the time taken for a packet of information to reach from one point to another. The higher the response time the slower will be the Internet connection.Global Internet Traffic report.

Similarly, packet loss measures the reliability of a connection, so higher the packet loss percentage, the slower the connection will work.

Asia seems better than South America, but when you compare city-wise, developing countries in South America have a higher Internet index than that of India. In the image below you can see, Mumbai, India, has index of 73 and response time of 260 m/s. (The figures put out by Internet traffic report is dynamic and changes almost every hour depending on the connectivity of each country, but similar index comparisons have been noted over the past few months.)

While developing countries like Peru and Argentina have better connectivity than Mumbai. But certain parts of in Columbia has terrible Internet connection due to 100% packet loss.

Isn't that terrible? To give you an example of that, Clyde has gone to great lengths to make his grievance, with Tata Indicom's broadband service, noticed. So if service providers don't get their act together in providing customers a better experience, I really doubt that India will ever have a faster Internet connectivity.
